Dean Winchester-Wikipedia

Dean Winchester is a fictional character on The CW Television Network's Supernatural, portrayed by Jensen Ackles. He hunts Demons, spirits, and other supernatural creatures with his brother, Sam.

Background

Dean was born on January 24, 1979 to John and Mary Winchester. He was the couple's first-born child and elder son, four years older than his younger brother, Sam.

Dean drives a black four-door 1967 Chevy Impala (given to him by his father) and is a fan of classic rock music and heavy metal. He always wears a brass amulet [1] on a long black cloth band necklace. In the episode "A Very Supernatural Christmas", the necklace is revealed to be a gift from Sam on Christmas Day, 1991. The amulet was originally meant for John, but after their father yet again failed to come home for Christmas, Sam gave it to Dean instead, saying "Dad lied to me, I want you to have it," and because Dean desperately tried to give him a good Christmas. In addition to the amulet, Dean always wears a silver ring on his right ring finger. He also has a small black tattoo on the upper right side of his chest, it is a protective plated pentagram with rays of the sun surrounding it.

Dean also appears to be a fan of Jack Nicholson, and possibly watches Oprah. He tends to make light of some of his and Sam's adventures, and is known to use crude humor and make sexual innuendos. Dean is terrified of flying, and claims that it is the reason why he drives everywhere. Despite his working knowledge of existence beyond death he is adversarial towards religion and does not fully believe in God. He values his family and their safety more than anything else, even going so far as to kill a demon and its human host in order to save Sam's life, as well as sell his own soul to save Sam's life.


Season 1

Early in the season ("Skin"), Dean and Sam battle a shapeshifter responsible for a string of brutal murders in the St. Louis, Missouri area. During the course of the episode, the shapeshifter assumes Dean's form, causing police to believe that Dean is responsible for the murders. However, Dean kills the shapeshifter while it is still in his form, and the authorities officially declare him dead.

The season finale concluded with Sam, Dean, and John escaping from their clash with Azazel. While Sam was driving an injured Dean and John to a hospital, a demonically possessed driver drove his truck into the Impala, causing massive damage to the car and the Winchesters inside.
Season 2

All three of the Winchesters survive the wreck, although Dean is more severely injured than his father or brother. In the season premiere, "In My Time of Dying", Dean is in a coma, and a reaper, Tessa, tries to convince him to die. In order to save him, John makes a deal with Azazel, trading his life for Dean's. Before he dies, John whispers something in Dean's ear which the audience cannot hear.

Throughout the first half of the second season, Dean struggles with the death of his father, as well as with the knowledge that he was the one who was supposed to have died. Furthermore, he is haunted by his father's last words to him. At the midpoint of the season, it is revealed that John told Dean that Azazel intends to turn Sam evil, and if Dean can not save Sam, Dean must kill his brother.

During an investigation in Baltimore, Maryland in "The Usual Suspects", Dean is arrested in connection with another series of murders. It is revealed that Dean has a rather impressive police record, with charges over the years including credit card fraud, breaking and entering, and grave desecration. Although Sam and Dean are able to prove that the murders were actually committed by one of the detectives on the case, it is unclear whether or not the charges against Dean were ever officially dropped. However, the problem still remains that the authorities have realized that Dean is not dead, as they had previously believed. In "Nightshifter", a team of FBI agents, led by Special Agent Victor Hendrickson, catches up with Dean and Sam in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where attempted bank robbery and several more murders are added to Dean's list of supposed crimes.

At the end of "All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1", just as Dean arrives to rescue his younger brother, Sam is stabbed and collapses into Dean's arms. Amidst his brother's pleas to stay with him, Sam dies, leaving Dean alone as the last living Winchester. Dean, believing he failed Sam, is too upset to deal with the crushing blow delivered when Sam died, and in a last ditch effort, travels to a crossroads to make a deal with the Crossroads Demon for Sam's life in exchange for his soul. In the end, Dean is allowed one year to live and Sam is then resurrected. At first, Bobby Singer is the only one to know of what Dean did, because Sam can't remember anything past when Jake stabbed him, and Dean makes up a lie about Bobby patching him up. Bobby yells at Dean for what he did, and Dean pleads with him not to tell Sam what he did, as he knows it will destroy Sam knowing Dean sold his soul.

However, Azazel questions Dean if he is sure what he brought back in Sam is "pure" after Sam unhesitatingly kills Jake without any sign of remorse. Sam figures out what Dean did by the end, and Dean tells him not to be mad, that he couldn't let Sam die, not like that. Sam vows to get him out of this, no matter what. At the end of the second season, Dean kills Azazel with the Colt, freeing his father's soul, but during the battle, hundreds of other demons escaped their prison and now Dean and Sam must defeat all of them, as well as find a way to save Dean from dying in a year's time.

Season 3

In the third season premiere "The Magnificent Seven", Dean makes the best of his last year, not worrying about his safety, while Sam tries desperately to find a loophole in the Crossroad Demon's deal. While investigating a case with a family who apparently dehydrated in minutes, Dean, Sam, and Bobby team up with a pair of hunters, Tamara and Isaac. They soon realize they are fighting the "Seven Deadly Sins" when Isaac is killed by Gluttony, leaving the Winchesters, Bobby, and Tamara to fight the centuries-old demons. When one of the demons, Wrath, takes over Isaac's corpse and tortures Tamara with old memories, we learn that the couple had begun hunting when their daughter was killed by something supernatural. Tamara, unable to listen any more, rushes out the door, wiping away the salt. As Tamara beats the possessed Isaac, the waiting demons rush in to begin battle with the brothers and Bobby.

In "The Kids Are Alright", Dean meets up with Lisa, an old "acquaintance" from almost eight years prior, and finds out she has an eight year-old son, Ben, who seems to possess many of Dean's characteristics, from his love of classic rock to his speech and love of the ladies. While Dean is questioning whether this is his son or not, Sam meets the mysterious blonde, Ruby, again who gives him the hint to search for the people his mother used to know. The brothers figure out that the kids are changelings and defeat the mother changeling. Dean is put at ease by Lisa, who assures him that Ben isn't his son, though he is somewhat disappointed. Meanwhile, Sam finds out that Ruby is a demon.

In "Malleus Maleficarum" Sam and Dean encounter three witches and get a little help from Ruby. They also learn that she used to be human, as were all the demons they've encountered. Dean also learns from Ruby that he can't escape his fate of dying in a year's time and becoming a demon himself. Dean must now train Sam to fight demons once he is gone.

In "Dream a Little Dream of Me", Bobby Singer falls into a coma, and Sam and Dean investigate the murder of a scientist. They end up trapped in Bobby's dream. Dean meets a nightmare version of himself that taunts him, saying that John Winchester doted on Sam, but only thought of Dean as a tool. After waking up, Dean admits to Sam that he doesn't want to die. Meanwhile, Bela steals the Colt.

In "Mystery Spot", Sam is forced to relive a Tuesday where Dean dies a different way each day. Sam realizes that the culprit is the Trickster, a villain from Season 2. It finally becomes Wednesday, but this time Dean dies and doesn't come back. Sam spends months trying to hunt down the Trickster, who reveals that he's trying to get Sam to understand that he and Dean can't keep making sacrifices for each other. The Trickster then sends Sam back to Wednesday.

In "Jus In Bello", the FBI and Agent Henricksen are able to capture Sam and Dean, thanks to a tip from Bela. While Sam and Dean are in jail, a host of demons come to kill them. Ruby comes to help them, but is furious to find out they have lost the Colt. She says that she knows of a spell that will destroy all the demons nearby, including herself, and that she is willing to die in order to help Sam. However, they will need the heart of a virgin. Sam and the virgin, Nancy, agree to the plan, but Dean refuses to let her die. Dean's plan to exorcise the demons works, but the police station is blown up by Lilith. Lilith, who takes the form of a little girl, is bent on killing Sam.

Dean continues to search for a means to stop his fate, but ultimately is told by Ruby that there is no way to prevent him from becoming a demon. After a 'conversation' with an image of his future 'demon form', Dean becomes more depressed. Shortly before the deadline expires on Dean's contract, he learns that Lilith, the demon pursuing Sam holds his contract.

Dean and Sam confront Lilith and her demon forces in a last ditch effort to protect Sam and save Dean's soul. Ruby appears and the three are chased into a room by a hellhound who has come for Dean. Dean quickly recognizes that she is being possessed by Lilith, but she incapacitates them. She then opens the door for the hellhound, which proceeds to tear Dean apart in front of the horrified Sam. Sam manages to regain control and recover the knife, but Lilith leaves Ruby's host's body before he can stab her. Sam then cradles Dean's bloody and lifeless body as he begins to cry. In the last scene of the season, Dean is shown apparently in Hell, suspended in a hellish void by seemingly endless chains and hooks through his flesh, crying out in agony for Sam's help.




The Impala

Dean's 1967 Chevrolet Impala features heavily throughout the series.

Dean's trademark black 1967 Chevrolet Impala bears a Sedgwick County, Kansas (even though they are from Lawrence, Kansas) license plate KAZ 2Y5, a reference to Kansas, the Winchesters' home state, and 2005, the year the show premiered, was passed down to him by his father. It has been prominently featured on the series, beginning with the teaser of the pilot which shows John holding his two sons as he sits on the car and watches his house burn. Dean protects and cares for the Impala with almost the same devotion he shows to his family and often talks to it as though it were human, (Bloodlust and Simon Said).[2] The Impala is nicknamed the "Metallicar". In the season two episode "What Is And What Should Never Be", the number plate was changed from KAZ 2Y5 to CNK 80Q3 as the boys were hiding from the FBI.

Skills and Abilities

Due to his father's training and his years of experience, Dean has several notable advantages for a human and is a formidable hunter and combatant. He is superbly proficient in hand-to-hand/close quarters combat and has demonstrated proficiency in knife fighting as well, using a blade on several occasions. He is an exceptional shot, capable of achieving excellent accuracy with most weapons, and is well-versed in the use of multiple types of firearms, although he prefers his Colt 1911 and sawn-off shotgun. He also possesses considerable demolitions training and apparently is knowledgable in the science of chemistry, as he has been shown to be capable of making improvised explosive devices through the use of common chemicals. Dean is extremely proficient at tracking, hunting and killing various supernatural creatures and has considerable knowledge of these creatures, their habits, weaknesses, appearance, ways of disguising themselves among humans, methods of killing, and where they normally prefer to live and hunt.

In addition to his combat skills, Dean is a skilled driver and a accomplished mechanic. He knows the inner workings of the Impala so well that he can often detect when something is wrong with his "baby" merely by listening closely. He also rebuilt it following the accident at the end of Season 1. He has demonstrated great proficiency at reading and manipulating people and assessing a given situation through observation, is a competent con artist, and is knowledgable in how police, the fire department and various other agencies-such as the FBI, Home Land Security and Center for Disease Control operate and respond to emergencies. Dean is also highly adept at escape and evasion, and can effectively remain unseen and move silently when the situation requires stealth. He is highly resourceful as well, is capable of quickly disabling and hacking various electronic devices-such as home security systems-and can quickly bypass (pick) most standard locks.

Weaponry

Dean tends to use a chromed Colt 1911 with ivory grips, which John is seen using in a flashback. He also uses a sawed-off double barrel shotgun when he needs extra firepower. Dean has also been seen with a sniper rifle in "Simon Said." He is shown to possess a large Machete in "Dead Man's Blood" and has used a knife in several episodes.
